St Germain Chocolate & Pastry Tasting Tour

Highlights

Guided Gourmet tour of St Germain des Près

Description

Once you have met up with your local guide in front of the Saint-Sulpice church, you will be taken for a walking tour of this legendary quarter of Paris, famous for many reasons, chocolate and patisseries being part of those reasons.
Situated on the left-bank of Paris, Saint-Germain-des-Près has established quite a reputation over the years. Home to French intelligentsia, many expatriates also chose to settle in this neighbourhood which still thrives nowadays with book shops, boutiques, jazz clubs, restaurants, cafés….but not only! Saint-Germain-des-Près is also considered the Parisian capital of chocolate therefore ideal for a chocolate and bakery walking tour!

Your guide will take you along the animated streets of this iconic Parisian area and make the best selection of chocolate shops or boutiques and bakeries in which for you to enjoy tastings. Find out where the cacao bean originates from and how each chocolate maker has his personal way of transforming it into melting chocolate sweets and even amazing works of art! Stop by some famous bakeries and find out why French bread and pastries are a reference in the world! Your guide will also “fill you up” with lots of historical facts and anecdotes!

Saint Germain area, famous the world over for its famous cafés, for example the Café des 2 Magots, the old stamping ground for many famous artists and writers. Indeed, this is where Hemingway (who was known to drink other stuff than coffee!) wrote ‘Farewell To Arms’. Or what some cite as being the oldest existing café in Paris, the Procope, originally opened in 1686, it knew a brief hiatus between the late 19th and early 20th century. Sit where other ‘famous’ customers have sat and contemplated life and other things, names such as Voltaire, Bonaparte, Danton, Benjamin Franklin or Oscar Wilde.

No stay in Paris would be complete without exploring this extremely quaint and chic area! A little bit of advice: if you take this tour in the morning just make sure you don’t have a huge breakfast in order to leave space for the delights on this tour. Regrouping two of the attractions of Paris; gastronomy and history!
