Vaux-le-Vicomte Palace was the tragic setting of the downfall of Nicolas Fouquet, the faithful tax collector and minister of Louis XIV. Fouquet paid the price of life imprisonment, victim of the jealousy of King Louis XIV, humiliated by the demonstration of power and good taste of his minister.

This little Palace is actually the teamwork of a little group of artists and builders who later created for the king the famous Versailles Palace. Thus, Vaux-le-Vicomte could be perceived as the first draft of Versailles, a small version that already contains all the great ideas that would be developed later in the Palace of Louis XIV. French artists, painters and sculptors gave the best of their talents to the glory of Vaux, a preserved genuine masterpiece of the French 17th Century.
